Athletes vs. Cancer segment for Ambiance Magazine (2013)

On August 18, 2013, Mike Madriaga collaborated with Amb’ance Magazine to cover the inaugural Athletes Vs. Cancer event at Pacific Palisades by Los Angeles. The flag football event was promoted by rap artist-Snoop Dogg and pro basketball player-Matt Barnes.

Barnes, a former NBA player, started the fundraising program in honor of his mother who passed away with cancer in 2007.

Each year his Athletes Vs. Cancer organization puts on fundraising events to obtain mobile cancer screening vans that will visit low income-neighborhoods and provide “free resource support and education, create awareness of the disease, provide screening opportunities and deliver subsequent support to cancer patients and their families.”

Barnes played on various teams in the NBA; in 2017, he was part of the Golden State Warriors championship team. With Barnes’ and Snoop’s influence — they draw hundreds of donors for the cause, and provide an entertaining game of flag football for the cancer patients and their families and friends.
